Coverage Options

What types of car insurance are available to pensioners in Denmark?

In Denmark, we offer three main types of car insurance for pensioners:

  • Liability Insurance (Ansvarsforsikring): This is the legally required minimum coverage that covers damage you cause to others' property or injuries to other people.
  • Partial Coverage (Delkasko): Includes liability coverage plus protection for fire, theft, and glass damage to your own vehicle.
  • Comprehensive Coverage (Kasko): Our most extensive option that covers all of the above plus damage to your own vehicle in accidents, vandalism, and weather-related incidents.

We offer special pensioner-specific features in each plan, such as roadside assistance tailored for seniors and coverage for medical equipment in your vehicle.

Does my age affect the coverage I'm eligible for?

At Danish Senior Insurance, we do not restrict coverage options based on age. Unlike many insurance companies, we believe that driving experience should be valued rather than penalized.

All pensioners are eligible for all levels of coverage, from basic liability to our premium comprehensive plans. Your specific rate will be based on factors like:

  • Your driving history (not your age)
  • The vehicle you drive
  • Your annual mileage
  • Where you live in Denmark

We offer a personalized assessment to determine your optimal coverage and rate.

What additional coverage options are especially beneficial for pensioners?

Several optional coverages are particularly valuable for senior drivers:

  • Enhanced Roadside Assistance: Our senior-focused roadside service includes help with not just mechanical breakdowns but also assistance if you become disoriented or unwell while driving.
  • Medical Equipment Coverage: Protection for mobility aids, hearing aids, and other medical devices that may be damaged in an accident.
  • At-Home Claims Service: For those with mobility challenges, we offer in-home claims processing.
  • No-Fault Accident Forgiveness: Your first at-fault accident won't increase your premium if you've been claim-free for three years.
  • Courtesy Car Option: A replacement vehicle with automatic transmission and features similar to your own during repairs.

Our insurance advisors can help you determine which of these options best suit your lifestyle and needs.

What is not covered by standard pensioner car insurance?

While our pensioner-specific policies are comprehensive, some exclusions apply to all car insurance in Denmark:

  • Damage caused while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Damage caused by intentional actions
  • General wear and tear or mechanical failure
  • Damage to the vehicle if the driver does not have a valid license
  • Damage occurring during participation in races or speed tests
  • Personal belongings inside the vehicle (unless you have personal effects coverage)

We provide clear documentation of all exclusions and are happy to explain these in detail before you purchase a policy.

Pricing & Discounts

Yes, we offer several discounts specifically designed for pensioners:

  • Low Mileage Discount: Significant savings for those who drive less than 10,000 km annually
  • Safety Course Discount: 5% discount for completing our senior driver refresher course

During your personalized quote, we'll check your eligibility for all available discounts to ensure you receive the best possible rate.

How is my premium calculated as a pensioner?

Unlike many insurance companies that might increase rates based solely on age, we use a fair assessment model that considers:

  • Driving History: Your record of claims and traffic violations (good records are rewarded)
  • Vehicle Type: Make, model, age, value, and safety features
  • Annual Mileage: Lower mileage typically results in lower premiums
  • Location: Where you live and park your car in Denmark
  • Coverage Level: The type and amount of coverage you select
  • Deductible Amount: Higher deductibles lead to lower premiums

Our pensioner-specific algorithm often results in lower premiums for senior drivers with good records, as we recognize the value of your driving experience.

What payment options are available for pensioners on fixed incomes?

We understand that many pensioners live on fixed incomes and offer flexible payment options to accommodate this:

  • Monthly Payments: Spread your premium across the year with no additional fee (unlike many insurers)
  • Quarterly Payments: Four payments per year
  • Annual Payment: One payment with a 5% discount
  • Pension-Synchronized Payments: We can align your payment schedule with your pension payment dates
  • Automatic Payment Options: Direct debit from your bank account or pension

We also offer a budget counseling service to help pensioners find the most affordable coverage that meets their needs without compromising on essential protection.

Do I need to pay more for special senior assistance services?

No, many of our senior-specific services are included at no additional cost:

  • Senior Helpline: Dedicated phone support for older customers
  • Simplified Documentation: Easy-to-read policy documents with larger print
  • Phone Appointments: Scheduled calls at convenient times
  • Interpretation Assistance: Help understanding complex insurance terms

Some premium services like in-home visits for claims processing are included in our Comprehensive and Premium plans, or available as affordable add-ons to our Essential Coverage plan.

Claims Process

How do I file a claim as a senior policyholder?

We've simplified the claims process with senior-friendly options:

  1. Report the Claim:
    • By phone: Call our senior-dedicated claims line at +45 8888 6666
    • Online: Submit through our website or mobile app
    • In person: Visit our office in Copenhagen
    • At home: Request a representative to visit you (for those with mobility issues)
  2. Documentation: Provide basic information about the incident (we'll help guide you on what's needed)
  3. Assessment: A claims specialist will evaluate your claim and explain next steps
  4. Resolution: We'll process your claim and arrange for repairs, replacements, or payments as needed

Throughout the process, you'll work with a dedicated senior claims specialist who understands the specific needs and concerns of older drivers.

What documentation do I need to provide for a claim?

The required documentation depends on the type of claim, but typically includes:

  • Accident Claims:
    • Police report (if filed)
    • Photos of the damage and accident scene (if available)
    • Details of other parties involved (if applicable)
    • Witness information (if available)
  • Theft Claims:
    • Police report (required)
    • List of items stolen from the vehicle (if applicable)
    • All vehicle keys
  • Windshield/Glass Claims:
    • Photos of the damage
    • Description of how the damage occurred

If you're unsure about gathering documentation or have difficulty doing so, our claims representatives can provide assistance, including helping you take photos or file a police report if needed.

How long does the claims process typically take for seniors?

We prioritize efficiency in our claims processing, particularly for senior policyholders:

  • Simple Claims: (e.g., windshield damage) are typically processed within 1-2 business days
  • Standard Claims: (e.g., minor accidents with clear liability) usually take 3-5 business days
  • Complex Claims: (e.g., major accidents with disputed liability) may take 7-14 business days

For our pensioner policyholders, we offer:

  • Priority processing where possible
  • Regular updates on claim status
  • Expedited payment processing
  • Fast-track options for emergency situations

If your claim is taking longer than expected, your dedicated claims specialist will explain why and keep you informed of progress.

Will my premium increase after filing a claim?

Our senior-friendly claims policy includes several protections:

  • No-Fault Accident Forgiveness: Your first at-fault accident won't increase your premium if you've been claim-free for at least three years.
  • Non-Fault Claims: Claims where you were not at fault (and another party's insurance pays) will not affect your premium.
  • Glass/Windshield Claims: These typically don't impact your premium regardless of how many you file.
  • Theft/Vandalism Claims: These generally won't affect your premium if you've taken reasonable precautions to secure your vehicle.

If you do experience a rate increase following multiple claims, we provide:

  • Clear explanation of why the increase occurred
  • Options to reduce your premium through adjustments to coverage or deductibles
  • Information about discounts you might qualify for to offset the increase

We're committed to transparency and will never surprise you with unexpected rate hikes.

Premium (Præmie)

The amount you pay for your insurance coverage, typically on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.

Liability Coverage (Ansvarsdækning)

Insurance that covers damage you cause to other people's property or injuries to others while driving.
